bath your horse? My coloured horse is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life, I only bathed him a week ago and I'm ashamed when anyone looks at him, he has no white bits left! He actually looks like a giant horse shaped poo!

At this time of year really, obviously its a bit more difficult when it's real winter and colder!

I rarely bath horses. They are far better left alone, with the natural oils and greese in their coats.

However, having just bought a grey horse - I may be revising those ideas pretty damn quickly - he's filthy !!!!

My mare has a spring bath when it gets warmer to get rid of any winter grease/dust although she is rugged all winter so is relatively clean.
She is quite a sweaty TB so she does get a shampoo free wash down most times after being ridden.

I bath Alee weekley as she has really itchy skin so the base of her mane and top of her tail get bathed in tea tree shampoo once a week which seems to sort the itching out. I only bath her everywhere else before a show!

Meg has had one bath in the last 2 years

I don't even bother bathing her for competitions - tis the benefit of having a bay, and doing lots of grooming.
Chloe has her legs washed more frequently (once a month in summer, more often in winter), but again rarely has a full bath.

hardly ever bath Frankie, hes a piebald and is always lying in [****]. its weird though cus his white is sooooo white, even when hes dirty hes bright. (i rhyme!) i should call him daz.

but his mane and tail are yellow, so i am going to probably bath him in the next couple of weeks. when i do ill need my sunnies to look at him because he'll be glowing! xxx

I very rarely bath my bay, just when she's lookinga bit dusty or itching a bit. Lucky really as she hates baths. It's a good thing Flash loves them because he's so horrible!

I have bathed ben once since I have had him and that was for a show, I dont need to he isnt exactly dirty mind you I am fussy and I will brush untill they are clean.

My old pony the coloured I used to have got bathed hardly ever, I kept her so clean all the time so never really needed to bath, I used to bath her for the first show of the season and then for any after that could get away with just doing legs and tail

Unless she was disgusting but that wasnt the case I was lucky I think

My grey AA mare has just had her second bath in the 18 months I've owned her!

And that was only because my daughter was having her first "proper" flatwork lesson ever on her and it happened to be with a rather well respected trainer

and Sprout was dirtier than I've ever seen her before and I couldn't bear the thought of taking my pretty, beautiful moving little mare for her first lesson with great big muddy piebald patches and a brown tail!

It was worth it - she was much admired

No option for me - Archie has never been bathed fully since ive had him (dont know whether his previous owner did, i doubt it). I wash his legs and tail before every competition. Ive washed his mane once. He gets hosed or sponged off everyday after ive ridden where his saddle/girth goes and on his neck/face.

Bloss has had one full bath this year. She gets her legs and tail washed every other week just to keep her nice and fresh.

I have a black horse

! I have had him four years and he has never had a bath...I am happy that he gets a rinse in the rain!!!

I said whenever she is disgusting but then she is grey so that is quite often. Last week I am ashamed to say she got 3 baths as I stupidly thought she would stay clean from sunday to wed but she didn't so had to have another for wed show then again on sat for my lesson. When I have no lessons or shows I just leave her, I am aware it isn't good for their skin so try not to do full baths when I can but I hate a dirty grey.

Jerry doesn't do baths, so far he has had one, which resulted in him sitting down, but he gets hosed off after exercise, and his tail washed occasionally.

Have never bathed the pony, but suppose he will get one before his goes anywhere

My boy has sweet itch, so needs his mane and tail washing out at least once a month to get rid of the scurf he builds up (which makes him even itchier), preferably once a fortnight (but with this weather it has only been possible to do once a month).

I was his feather out maybe once every 2 months or so, the rest of him I tend to leave - he wears a sweet itch rug so doesn't generally look that bad!
