Was just wondering as I've only just brought my horse and never had to deal with any of this.
How often do you worm your horse?
What do you use to worm them?
Thanks in advanced

Do worm counts first and talk to your vet as there can be slight regional differences. What wormer depends on time of year and what type of worms you need to deal with and at what stage.

Good worm control these days is based on testing rather than continuous dosing. The exception to this is your mid winter dose of moxidectin (Equest) to target any encysted stages of redworm and maybe bots. Otherwise three monthly worm counts plus two tapeworm tests per year and plenty of helpful advice on the Westgate Labs site or ring for advice more tailored for your horse.

Always worm count before you worm. Then it can help you know whether you NEED to worm. You don't want to worm unnecessarily as this builds immunity to the wormer which you don't want.

Generally though Tapewormer and treatment for encysted small red worms is recommended in late October/November, as well as continued faecal worm egg count monitoring.
