How often to event?

How often will you event your pre-novice horse during the season.
Over here (not sure about over in england)
we have a rougly 6 week period, then a months break approx then another 6 week period.
I'm hoping to move up to novice this year, possibly end of first season, and am wondering how often you all event your horses? Events are weekly
I don't want to do too much but it's hard to decide which ones to do!
 
I'll do aim to do 3 a month for 2 months then she'll have a slight break, maybe just do 1 in a month, then back to 2/3 a month then break for the hard ground and then 3 a month again.
Sounds like quite a lot but she's a baby and she'll need the runs. If she doesnt feel quite right or gets tired, we'll w/d if needs be
 
personally think it depends on the ground, weather (heat) how sound your horse is, how much it needs to learn the job and how you get on, age of the horse, temperament and experience of the rider. Never forget that a hunter with any decent pack will hunt up to three times a fortnight in all sorts of ground and be out all day so any reasonably fit horse should cope with a PN once a week if needed but you have to bear in mind that on their off days hunters will mostly hack to maiuntain their fitness whereas eventers are often having lessons, going to dressageand showjumping and generally having a more intense enviroment.
 
I have 3 to event next year (how cool is that!!).

All plans assume all 3 stay sound all year (not sure what the chances of that are).

They are all going to be 6 next year but have different background experience.

The ground is terrible around here so they will all do a split season with a busy spring (aiming to get about 2/3rds of their total outings in before end of June), a quiet summer and then a busy autumn.

Merry is very green and this will be his 1st season. He will probably do about 8 events in total, will start at Intro and see where we end up from there.

Lexi will be going into her second BE season. She will do about 10 events in total - hopefully 2 or 3 at PN and then up to Novice fairly soon.

Molly is also in her 1st season but less green than Merry - she will do about 10 events in total. She will start at PN - maybe Novice by the end of the year.
 
I usually event mine every couple of weeks, feel they go a bit stale without a run for much longer than that, but equally wouldnt want to run any more than that. I only run on decent going though, so xc runs tend to be fewer during the harder months!
