No to her back being checked - if I felt she wasn't right then I would get a decent vet to have a look. I have seen far too many rogue backmen and quacks to take them seriously. I am considering getting a sports massage for Spring though, just because I think she would like it.
I have my saddle checked if I think it doesn't feel right or if she has changed shape.

I would get my horses back checked if i felt he needed it but would consult the vet first. Currently my boy has his saddle checked nearly every month - over kill i know but his last saddle was pinching him and he freaked out one day dumping me in the process. so he's being checked often to make sure his knew one fits OK plus he is only 4 with nerely no muscle (only had him 3 months) and so is constantly changing shape.

I'm currently on a remedial saddle so have it checked every 6-8 weeks. she isn't in pain it is just for muscle growth. Back use to be every year but now every six months, touch wood we've never had any problems

I get the physio to do whe horse when I know he needs doing. As he is a bit of a 'special' case I have learnt to recognise the warning signs eg I have a good feel of the muscles around his poll, down his hamstrings etc and as his rehab lady said they should feel like oranges not apples or bananas!

I would have his back checked every 6 months as a matter of routine, whether I felt he needed it or not. If he felt he needed a checkup inbetween I would get him looked at, too. I don't get my saddle checked as such because I can tell myself pretty well if is becoming too tight or if the fit is changing. I'd just change the saddle in that case.

As a rule i get mine checked every six months but at the moment they are both having their back and saddles done every 3/4 months as i have a just backed youngster who is rapidly growing and muscling.

Thats so interesting as Im the same. The physio has only been involved with my horse for about 4 months and treating regularly for the last two. Vet as been a bit of a waste of time tbh but physio has been really great and horse is coming right now.

Funny that mine was identified with sacroiliac injury, hamstring probs, other minor probs too, and the only thing now causing obvious pain issues is the poll which was never identified as a problem area by the vets! Physio suspects that this is probably where the back and hamstring issues have originated from over a long period of time. Would love to know more about yours as we are still in early days!!

So getting back to the thread.... Vet first, to say that physio can have a look!!! Wouldnt have a "back person" as who knows how qualified they are!!

I would consider a chiropractor if the physio suggested it.

And I have to get my saddle checked at least every 6 months or sooner if we have an issue.
