Ok, silly question but how old would you say this horse is? 10 or 20?

Impossible to tell from a headshot but going by the sunken bit above the eye and lack of topline on the neck, I'm going to have a stab in the dark at 20. Sorry if I'm wrong!

I would say 10 but again, hard to tell. My horse is 15 but when he was ten/eleven often people mistook him for four or five!

Well be bought him as a 10 year ex racer - raced til 7 and left in field since but vet says he's got teeth of a 20 yr old and suggested racing yard have replaced original horse with this one?

Racing vids look like him but just waiting for old photos but passport markings match exactly Plus bet couldn't locate a chip

I would say 20 too

Must say he looks VERY well if he is. Credit to you
:)

teeth are one thing they cant alter, even if they change the passport or substitute the horse.

Hi, I believe at 13 the galvine (spelt wrong I think!) groove starts to show on the teeth, that's one way of telling for sure if he is at least 13 which will be a starting indicator. Would suggest you get a qualified equine dentist to have a good look, they will be more accurate than a vet unless the vet has done his dental exams and also better at rasping the teeth.

Hope you get the info you need, sweet horse!

actually no the groove starts at 15 - at 20 its down to the bottom - 25 its half way down the from the top tooth- and at 30 its totally gone.:D

I was told by a EDT that once they are over twenty its not really possible to age accuratly. They should b able to tell you if hes younger tho.

Not necessarily a good indicator. My lad is 11, and has always had the sunken bit above his eyes (not quite as deep as the OP's horse, but they've been like that since he was 5). Hard to tell from a photo really.

My book says galvayne's groove starts at ten and shows it about 1/3 of the way down the tooth by 13??
