How old is old!

I challenge you to a ride-off. Any discipline, you name it. Should be an easy one for you as I'm a 51 yo. :p
I ride a lot better now than I did when I was 30 ;)

Blimey, not sure why all you ladies in your 50's have taken my post so completely wrong, not sure where I said for a minute 50 was old :D

My good friend whom I rode out with before I lost my girl last month is 51 and i do not see her struggling, she does say she feels old sometimes but she is as fit as a fiddle. In fact she does not suffer with the knee and back pain I do when riding

lol, an old crock! not at all! Depends how fit you are. I have a pretty rubbish back so if I am riding into my 50's still I will be very pleased, if I can go beyond, even better....:D

Well I'm 55 and definitely not fit :( but sort of hoping all the mucking out and riding will make me so..

But in my head, I've reverted to the young me of many years ago: a horse owning, equine-obsessed person mostly covered in hay and straw and smelling vaguely of horse wee. :D Oh and with my hair generally plastered to my head from wearing my riding hat.

I love it. :D:D How did I cope all those years without horses?

I am 57 and still ride an ex racer, did endurance last year on an Arab, but kept to the 30 KMs. Hips are knackered so have to ride my horse in a racing saddle, couldnt ride anything other than a TB now as everything else is too wide. I shall keep on for years.

I'm 21 and I feel about 80 today and I can't think why, I haven't ridden (Or done much else) since friday!!

I think my father (60) could still do a decent job of riding, as he still takes his push bike to work everyday (6+ miles) and goes for blasts on his motorbike. He's much fitter than me!

I'm sure it must be much better to have ridden all your life than come back to it like I have. My joints and muscles are very out of condition.

So glad I started this thread....I am now inspired to ride forever! I'm sure with plenty of painkillers and a quick nap after mucking out 101 is within our reach!

I am a MAN
Proof....

My dads friend bought himself a recently backed 3 year old, I see him going for miles on it, its now rising 5 and when he goes off for a hack its a good 2/3 hour hack. The man is 71, although if I am honest he would pass for 50ish. I will stop riding when my body stops me from getting on anymore, untill then its radox and muscle rub for me
If I stopped riding when my body told me to I would already be out of the saddle!
I'm 26 and still ride 'full time' although did have a few months off this year (over cubbing season :(). When I get older I will get a ride and drive cob so when I can't ride I will get a cart and drive instead.
I'm 26, although I feel about 50!

My previous instructor was 67 and riding Grand Prix dressage (While schooling up about 5 youngsters aswell AND giving lessons) - But physically she was in better shape than most 30 year olds. So I guess it depends on how well you look after your body :). I plan on riding until the day that my heart stops (Hopefully that happens while I'm on some calm, old cob's back and not my mischievous little palomino's), and if for some reason I'm physically too weak to ride - I'll take up driving XD. All I know for sure is that regardless if I'm riding a horse or simply sitting at the paddock fence watching it graze, horses will always be a fundemental part of my life - and I doubt old age would ever change that :P

My master plan is to take up hunting in my sixties (have never hunted) and purchase a fiery ex pointer/hurdler. I will think enjoy many stirrup cups and hope that one day whilst galloping along I will be killed in action :)

My RC has several retired members who still ride regularly, admittedly one lady has stopped jumping because she daren't risk falling off, in case she breaks her artificial hips.
I am intending to join them in about 3 yrs, as are several other people that I know. I think that we shall probably be organising a whole new series of events for us to attend in day-times when the younger members are at work/school, lol!

I'm 63 and only hack and school. I would love to do pleasure/endurance, not to mention dressage again but I don't have transport any more. I still enjoy a blast across fields.

I am lucky that I have a safe,(well mostly, he only does small bucks)pony.

I do hunt and if I get permanently planted the benefits are that the mortgage is paid off and the relatives are left with a nice insurance policy payout and of course if my horse does it properly they wont have to bury me either..doffing their caps on their next pass will do me nicely :D.

so not really ever worried by how old is too old!
