Just musing as probably not going to happen but where I ride in Spain lots of you know they have some older horses who may at some point need new homes. How old is too old for such a massive change in their lives? Different food different climate lose all their friends etc. thoughts appreciated. The one I like the most is in his twenties!

I've loaned/put out on loan ponies in their mid to late twenties and they settled in no problem even with routine changes. I'd only be wary if they were late twenties or older and had led a very sheltered life, same home, same herd, no travelling for events/holidays etc or were known to be really stressy.

I think if they’ve been moved around regularly theyre less likely to care than having lived on the Same yard their whole life
All mine move between 5/6 different towns/fields over the year for grazing and visit different arena hires so are all pretty quick to settle in new places
One of mine is 22

Theres a world of difference moving yards and importing a horse from a foreign country where the lifestyle is totally different. Lots of them struggle at least initially, when they come over. I wouldnt want to do it with anything other than a young horse, and only then, if I had a suitable place to keep it.
