How old is your tack?

Saddle must be at least 15yrs old and still in excellent condition.

Current exercise bridle, most of it is 10yrs old apart from noseband which was new this year.

Reins I replace every 18 months/2yrs.

Girth, new this year. Leather one, expect that to last 3-5yrs before repair needed.

Hunting breastplate is about 9yrs old and the leathers' getting a bit thin now from all the scrubbing. Hope it to last for a good few years yet though.

Don't like new tack, it's generally not half as well made as the old stuff.

My saddle was bought in July so only 5 months old. My bridle is about 5 years old but when clean it still looks like new.

My YO has tack that is well over 10 years old still going strong. We had loads of bits and bobs much older but unfortunatly they all got stolen.

Saddles are really old, but comfortable for both horse and rider, and in excellent nick.

Interesting about the quality issue re newer tack.

We bought two brand new Stubben bridles last year, and one has already had to have replacement straps due to cracking and breakage.

We have an old Sabre bridle, and an old Passier bridle, and both are really soft and strong.

Maybe the newer leather just needs time to supple up and soften?
