I was living just outside Manhattan as a child and started riding, age 10, with my Dad every weekend at stables in a very urban environment.
After high school and university, I got married and became very active in the dog fancy (small horses?).
I got my first horse in England at age 52. I now have 5 Shires and 2 donkeys. Talk about getting a late start! Many people with large breeds of dogs tend to gravitate to smaller breeds as they age. Me, I went larger, much larger!
I was 18. I rode since I was 10 but parents could not buy me a pony. So when I got my first job at 17 I saved hard and bought a 14.1hh pony. My dad bought me a saddle. I kept him for abo it a year and a half and then bought a 15.2hh SJ mare who I kept for about 7 years, although years 5 and 6 of that she was out on loan to a friend.
I bought my first horse at sixteen l left school and got myself a job so l could afford it. I worked at my local riding school before that so l could have free rides
Started riding at about 5, got first pony an 14.1 Arab called pharaoh at 12, had him till I was 16, then had a nightmare coloured 3 years ago, had my current mare for 18 months a 16.1 bay mare who is amazing. Im 25 years old and I think I will be addicted to horses for ever!
I bought my first pony Star 4 months before my 18th birthday, he was a welsh cross and stunning! Chestnut with a big star, he was only 13.2 though so i sold him when i had backed him and bought a lovlely mare called Honey who i had for 10yrs.
12 - My Mum always said "just remember we can never afford to buy you a pony" so I found one one loan, asked the local farmer if I could keep him there - she said fine, a pound a day, so I got a paper round! Mum said ok as was only on loan...then the owners wanted to sell the loan pony a few months later! Needless to say, they bought him for me!!!
I was 18MONTHS when my pony 'Shambles' came. At the time I still wasn't walking, and parents wanted me to get out and about a bit. I have old photos of the day she arrived, and I'm seen to be on my knees at the side of the trailer ramp. . The pony was a scrap of a shaggy shetland type, who in time blossomed into a not so shaggy thing and was VERY tolerant of both myself and my brother. I rode, he got towed behind on his toy tractor!! We sold her when I was 7 and following that had many loan ponies and hand-me-downs!!.
My current horse was a birthday present in 2002 and my filly is my first that I've bought myself (bought her in Sept 2010)
Can't imagine life without horses! (BTW, I'm nearly 32)
I was 15. He was a schoolmaster Trakehner stallion that took me to 1.40m level SJ - fabulous horse who put up with all my mistakes without a single question.
I was 19 (20 now) when I bought my own. Don't get me wrong, begged for one all my life from my mum, but out of the blue came my youngster who was absolutely perfect in my eyes so had to have her.
I got Mouse when I was 10, my sis got Duck (already called that - Horsegate Grebe) was she was 9, I got Blackjack when I was 14, my sis got Squizz when she was 14 and I started loaning Jazz when I was 26!!
We still have Mouse, Squizz and Jazz as well as Woody (mother's horse).
We've also taken on/been able to ride lots of others in between: Thomas, Stormin' Norman, Pebbles, Fly, Jake, Reilly, Sam, Welham, Hero and many more!
