how old were you when you started riding?

Sat on a horse before I could walk and have a cine film somewhere of me hugging my sister's pony but did not have lessons until about 4 or 5.

Was totally obsessed with horses from the beginning and for about a year around the age of 6 the only book I allowed anyone to read me was a childrens abridged version of Black Beauty. I still love that book.

There was a guy I used to ride with who learnt to ride in his late 60's early 70's - he rode quite well.

Thanks everyone, so now my old dear has had it comfirmed she is not to old to start, we need to start saving! another one for my dad to pay for so he can forget any early retirement plans lol, a friend of ours came up our yard last night on her 15'2 cob and said mum could have a go but the only problem is my mum dont like heights so thought he was to big and said if he was 6 inches smaller she would of got on! failing chopping he's feet off I cant see a way round this lol.

Well, I pestered my mother to stop at roadside pony rides from the time I first realized what they were - does that count? :p

But I started actually riding at 8. A neighbor had 2 ponies and a couple of Belgians and all us kids barreled around on the ponies and climbed up on the Belgians in the pasture.

I got my first horse when I was about 10. Your mother is NOT too old to re-learn.

I got my first pony at 4 but rode my dads polo ponies from when i was about 2. My first encounter with a horse was my first day out of hospital, 6 days old. My mum always says she knew from then i would be into my riding as when the horse snuffled my face i laughed, but when my bro was a baby he cried- he has basically given up now!
