How old (without looking at my other threads!) and how does she look?

Worked it out now! Brain cells have obviously not completely given up on me! :)

Oh I hate these things....on the risk of completely making an idiot of myself with a silly [or possibly offensive??] answer....20,early 20's maybe?

Sorry if COMPLETELY wrong....I just picked a number out of my head lol.

Thelwell_girl (I loved Thelwell when I was growing up!!) - if you do a sneaky peak at my other posts you will see her age - but no telling - promise?? But there are other things you also need to take into account which I will reveal in due course.....

Hard to tell, the lighting of indoor arenas is never very flattering, and again difficult to tell with her winter coat xp I would say 17? She looks very well, but her back does make me think she's a slightly older mare :)

Maybe 13? Way younger than the others I know but she looks fab! Often tbs don't carry much weight which can be deceiving (I had a 6yo tb once who didn't look that good when I got him)

I'd say mid to late twenties, simply because I have seen some horses who look this well at that age and an unridden pic 'might' reveal less topline than she appears to have, sorry if I am wrong and I don't mean to cause offence if that isn't the case! My friend has an aged horse that is 30+ who looks much younger (I would have said late teens at the most,) so that is influencing me a bit too.;)

Forgot to add she looks in great condition. :)

Holy C.

Just found your previous post lol.....all I can say is well done you!!! I hope I can keep my neddy looking like that when he gets to that :)

Hehe, when I was little (and very occsionally now!) my Dad said when I ride I looked like a Thelwell girl, bouncing up and down in the air on the back of some poor forgiving pony :D

Arrgh, I couldnt find it!
*waits in anticipation*

Thanks everyone - you have made me feel very proud of my girl. A little background.....

Got her at 5 or 6 depending on which bit of the vet's report you looked at (but went with 5 for insurance purposes). She came from a reputable dealer and had come from Ireland a couple of months before. Looking back at the photos she looked like a hat rack with no back end at all. Started feeding her up and became a complete nutter, and was nearly sent to the 'glue factory' on many occasion!

Over the years I have done everything on her although dressage and showing were what we tended towards later on once she decided to start maturing (in her mid to late teens :D).

At 25, I nearly lost her due to pedunculated lipomas in her gut. Major major surgery, more than 35 foot of gut removed and very poor prognosis, but Liphook and a lot of TLC afterwards got her through.

She's now 34 and has a gentle life, but is still ridden 2 or 3 times a week to keep her ticking over. She's the sort of horse that would not suit retirement. She can still do lateral work. It was what got her from being the most crooked horse my RI has ever worked with to doing low level, but successful affiliated dressage. In fact daily Super Codlivine supple joint formula and regular lateral work seems to have been the recipe for a long happy life in her case.

We have had many adventures, good and bad (including the time she escaped from Cranleigh Showground and galloped for several miles up the lanes to be stopped by a quick thinking coach driver who managed to stop on time and park diagonally across the road so that her route was blocked; she swerved down a drive and thank goodness it was a small private livery yard who held onto her until we arrived).

She is a complete school mistress and has introduced so many people to dressage and schooling basics - if you don't ask properly, she won't do it. And is a master in pretending she is working in an outline when all she does is round her neck and trail her back legs if she thinks she can get away with it!! Everyone compliments her on her schooling, but it was only achieved by hours and hours of practice. And I love the fact that she still puts a 'happy' buck in on the first canter of every ride!

All in all she is my horse of a life time, and I have been so lucky that after searching for a horse for 18 months I finally settled on a scrawny bay mare with a twinkle in her eye!!

(P.S. croissants and a big cup of tea if you got through this) xx.

Touchstone, that doesn't offend in the least. I haven't measured her recently but she started at 15'2" and is at least a couple of inches lower than that. Her back has dropped considerably which makes her age more obvious in unridden pictures. But we use two riser pads at the back of the saddle (her saddle is already built up) and it holds the saddle level so the weight is correctly distributed. She also has lost topline relative to how she was say 10 years ago, but she is doing considerably less work than 10 years ago so that is not surprising.

34?!?!

She looks amazing! What a fab horse, I wish you were just that liitle bit more south and I'd be begging (prob unsuccesfully) for a ride! :o

Agreed, the lighting wasn't great, also the picture was taken with my iPhone, so the quality of the picture isn't great.
