got a call yesterday from lady who keeps her horses in the neighbouring field to me ( same yard ) asking was their any reason why Inky was in with her mares!!!!! OOps!!!! They couldnt catch him so made my way to the farm but on arrival her daughter had already rugby tackled him to the floor and caught the little B**ger!!!!

Dont think he could have managed anything with them if he tried ( can't really get pregnant from bonking a hock!!! ) but cant figure out for the life of me how he got out. My field is well electrified as the pic below shows and her field is also electrified so he went through two fences!!! Any ideas on how he managed it!!!!! Im thinking of submitting him for the olympic gymnastics team!!!

He probably squeezed under or through it and with his rug on he didn't get a shock, take the rug off and he'll soon remember what the electric fence is for!!! My 2 year old does it, I only have one battery and alternate it between the fences, he always goes through the white tape whenever it's not electrified in his field, I swear he must know when the battery's not on it!!!

As a member of the Inky fan club, I would check his field for signs of tunnelling

Is his field electric fenced like this all the round? And are all the tapes electrified? My Icelandic (same sort of hair do as the wonderful Inky) used to lift the top tape with his neck (never got a shock through the abundance of mane) and then put his foot on the remaining tapes and step through.

He doesn't do it anymore, being 10 years older, not to mention we have post & rail with thick electric tape.

What a cute little pony, my shelties walk through, under, over electric tape so we put up electic wire and have had no problems since

I've watched my shettie do it. He grazes right up to the fence and just goes for it. The fencewill roll over his back and with yours having a rug on he'll likely not feel a thing..as for not getting mares preggers? don't believe it..some mares will do almost anything for a bonk!!

Whip his rug off and let him get a zap...

thought this was a good one to read and made me chukle...
My mare is the same 12.2hh....we watched her one day and she actually rolled under the fence, tucking her legs right down and riggling along...since then she is older and I dont think she has the same elastic limbs she used to but with a rug on she will quite happily lean, walk through, jump and even clamber through the fence any way she can....
maybe inky has little springs in his hooves, or maybe relies on a neighbouring horse to lift him over with their teeth :0)

You'd be surprised, rolled up at the yard the other day to find four horses (mine included) had found their way through two lots of wire fencing, one lot of electric fencing and a hedge to graze in the 'special needs' field as it had more grass!
The shetland I looked after as a kid used to actually lift the wooden posts out of the ground if the grass was greener on the other side.
Lady and a couple of the other mares have been known to stand in the ditch in the past to give one of the geldings we used to have (he was 10.2hh) easy access when they were in season. :0

Jay2 - I have checked for all signs of tunneling etc...!!! The fence is the same on two sides and the other sides are hedges that open onto the cows fields where he couldnt get out from into the mares field!! All 5 strands are electrified ( costs fortune in batteries!!!! )
