How P'd off would you be as a buyer?

(I meant as a seller sorry).... having a pony vetted tomorrow but I really don't want the pony UNTIL next weekend as it's my mum's b'day this weekend and I want to take her to london... would you be very annoyed if I asked you to keep pony for a week and would a deposit help your mood slightly?

When I bought Fleur the seller was happy to keep her for nearly a week, I had work commitments & she was coming by transporter. I paid him in full & he was cool.
 
We've done it twice with the ponies, but I left a ten percent deposit each time and it was only for a week each time.

As a seller, I wouldn't count it as a sale unless I had received a deposit.

When i bought my last one I picked him up three weeks after I bought him as I went skiing straight after..! Seller was happy to look after him for those three weeks and sign something to say they were responsible for his welfare (i also insured him myself to be on he safe side). But like Eriskayowner said, I was paying a high enough price that I would expect the seller to be helpful...
 
Our youngster stayed where he was for another 3 weeks after we bought him. We were going away on holiday and didn't want him to come home then we go off and leave him with another stranger so soon after he had already had the upheaval of moving in the first place.

The seller had no problem with this, and in fact was delighted that we put the horse first.
 
When I bought my current horse, we looked at her one weekend, then went back for a 2nd visit the next weekend (partly because of the seller's circumstances) and collected her the weekend after that. The seller wouldn't take a deposit!
I guess she knew that the horse was going to a good home, lol! Actually we have kept in touch and she's not very far away from us. I get updates about her new horse.
 
When I sold my last horse I kept her for a fortnight as the buyer had to wait for pay day so she could give me the money. Didn't mind at all, I was just worried my horse would get injured in the time that i waited.
 
I wanted to do this when i bought a horse and they wanted me to pay livery till i picked him up!! I changed the vetting till the day i could pick him up and gambled that they wouldn't sell him in that time! It was a dealer though so i guess it's all about making a profit.

I think that's perfectly acceptable - you'd be expected to pay for the pony in full though, I'd imagine. And make sure it was insured etc...
 
My first horse was kept by the buyers for a week (he'd been fully paid for, though), because our yard vet suspected he had ringworm and he was being treated for it. The seller didn't mind, and I went to visit him a few times before they brought him to us :)
 
This happened to me, the buyer wanted the horse and they were perfect for each other too:D

The buyer paid for the horse in full and I kept her for two weeks until she could be picked up. The buyer did offer to pay livery but I said it was not necessary as I would not have felt right taking livery money off her, do make sure you arrange insurance for the horse though!
 
Not the same but I have done this with a kitten, kept him 2 weeks longer than necessary because the owner was going away. Little b****r ran away on the day she was supposed to pick him up. Thank-fully after 5 hours searching we found him. Phew!

If I were selling a horse though, I would have no problem keeping it for another week, its a buyers market and they either want to sell the horse or they dont. Make it a term of your buying agreement, i cant see them saying no.
 
No I wouldn't have an issue with it as longas I had a deposit/possibly livery for a week if I was up against it needing to go :)
 
It wouldn't bother me at all.
In fact I kept a horse for 3 weeks for a buyer as they were going on holiday.

However I did stipulate payment in full, and wrote a receipt that the horse was their liability and I recommended insurance.
