So my horse is suffering from ulcers and being treated with Gastrogard. I am changing his feed and have introduced Alfa-A pellets by changing 25 per cent of his mix per week, but I'm wondering if anyone was been recommended to change an ulcer sufferer over more quickly, as he's presumably only going to feel a lot better once his feed is sorted!

I guess it depends what you're changing from and too...

My gelding was on an ulcer friendly diet before his treatment & diagnosis started. So it was all minor tweaks here and there for him.

Just incase you're interested he's on 1/2 Stubbs scoop Dengie hi Fi unmollassed, alltech lifeforce and boswellia, if I think he needs some oomph I add ERS pellets (or sarecen releve if I can get hold of it - generally only need to add to his diet in the winter) he's out 24/7 and rugged appropriately (read as treated as a wuss and rugged it it drops colder then 12 degrees!)

Best of luck, they're horrible to deal with but the GG is very quick!

I changed mine in a week although he scoped clear he had many symptoms and the diet change made him much happier, it was mid season so the difference was obvious as the bulk of the diet is fibre I wasn't too worried about changing so quickly.

Thanks guys. The GG has made his tummy much softer and dropped, but he still has some diarrhoea so torn between wanting him off the last of his mix and onto the Fibreforce and not wanting to upset him even more!
