How rude is this right!

[ QUOTE ]
No believe it or not! The best part is I work in Solicitors too lol! The field I was in was surrounded by trees, you jumped through the trees, they wouldn't have seen me until last minute! So thought it was pointless really! Totally accident! Valid lesson learnt - not riding anyone elses horses ever again! Sticking to my own lol

[/ QUOTE ]
Oh fair enough if it was an accident, how unfortunate though. And silly that the only way to enter this field was by jumping into it, surely it's dangerous. You may be able to claim if they have third party insurance on their horses though, then you wouldn't have to feel bad about the riders because it wouldn't be out of their pockets! Did they acknowledge what they had done or ride away?

Right Im off to bed, bet I'm going to be stiff in the morning, think I've wrenched my shoulder

Oh well life goes on! Night everyone and thanks for all your comments.

It's a really nice place actually! Mark Todd has done clinics there! I saw Matthew Wright exercising some his eventers there too once last year!

There's several routes of getting into the field jump wise, and a gate to go through. I'm just putting it down to one of those things!

No they didn't stop, or acknowledge it. In all honesty, I don't think they realised what had happened! Probably thought my mate's mare was misbehaving

My friend asked a lady who was on the ground for assistance as she had me and two horses to deal with... lets just say the lady wasn't too forthcoming!

The owners of the course were lovely! Kept in contact after my operation as to progress, which was very sweet too!

It is rude and far too common, i've experienced it myself, luckily i was on an older mare who although a silly head at times was at least controllable. Friend was on our young loan pony though and got bolted with onto a road, then he reared and only the telegraph pole behind them stopped him going over on her (although obviously still hurt!). Was terrifying. Silly people who had come out of a track behind us onto main track at a canter, just made comments about how silly our horses were being and carried on, leaving us there in a bit of a state.

Some people just have no consideration, you just have to hold on and hope for some luck.

Nailed let it go.

People galloping by without checking is the worst of bad manners when riding.

[/ QUOTE ]
Hear! Hear! Time to let it go.

The galloping past a very young horse is an appalling lack of manners!

QR this has happened to me too when i was out with my then 7 year old daughter on her 12.2hh. I am just soooo lucky that I managed to keep hold of my cob and my daughter's pony is just brilliant at all times. Luckily I recognised them from coming from the local livery / riding school but when I phoned to complain the owner told me that as they were liveries there was nothing she could do but speak to their parents (they were teenagers). I was furious to say the least!!

People should have more respect, I would never and have never cantered up behind other people using common land.

Its very bad manners to go galloping up behind someone, and bloody dangerous! I would try to find out where they are from and approach their YO, if they have one.

Haha, shouting on a bolting horse??? very sensible- i think not!!

[/ QUOTE ]

I would be yelling my head off... Along the lines of feck stop you bar steward...sorry cant stop to any one I may happen upon while sh*tting bricks lol

[ QUOTE ]
QR Haha-- They shot out of nowhere didn't really have time to grasp what was going on

[/ QUOTE ]
So you had no time to see or hear them comming. In that case they didn't have time to see you either.
Thought of that?

I can see its rude, and whilst my horse would create a little if this happened to him, I would cope. I even would have done on my old horse who was an accomplished jogger and a nightmare on so called 'fun' rides.

Yes its unfortunate, but sometimes you have to be the bigger person, the only way sadly that you'll find out how a youngster or any horse will respond to things is by them happening to them
frown.gif

People have done this to me on xc fun days too, come belting past me. Sometimes its easier to turn your horse and push them forwards the other way if they start creating ime

We get that kind of behaviour on a bridleway where people will use it as a bit of a canter track and they either charge up behind you in canter, just about slow up to a walk to go past you and then take off again immediately or do the same but coming towards you. There's always walkers, dogs and cyclists around on this track too so not just horses it could impact on. It's the one thing I cannot stand as it's the height of riding bad manners and can and does lead to dangerous accidents. I always wear hi-viz on the bridleway for this very reason and will say something to people who approach in that way, and if they can't hear me stick my hand up for them to halt. Recently I've been accompanying people on a horse just coming back into work after injury and any leaping about like that for him would have been disastrous.

I am a considerate rider, I will avoid trotting past someone on a horse on the road and will avoid cantering near people full stop.

But if someone put their hand up to me to stop, I don't know what my reaction would be. We're all out there hacking in the REAL WORLD to have fun, you are not my mum, nor are you a police officer, thanks.

If I was cantering up a bridleway and another rider upfront put their hand up for me to stop or slow then I would straightaway, most riders wouldn't give you that signal without a good reason. Maybe their horse is hyper, injured or whatever but I wouldn't want to cause an accident. Or on the other hand their might be a bloody great hole in the ground and they're trying to warn me!!!

I would finding out which yard they came from and going up and having polite word and asking them not to do it again, that could of ended up being a nasty accident and hopefully will prevent it happening again to you or to someone else.

They couldn't have been going that fast if the OP had time to establish that they should have been in school, given that home education is a legal and flourshing option.
Until last term both my daughters were home educated and might have hacked out during the day, not that they would gallop past you, you understand, but you'd be hard pushed to establish their school registration or otherwise even at a brisk walk, frankly.
