I contacted someone on here who knows the dealer I bought coblet off. Goes to show what can be found amoungst these forums!
As most know, he's been through a lot in his life, driven from 3-6 years old, got dangerous as owner got ill, then sold on to be a forever companion because no one trusted to ride him. Somehow he was moved on, lost contact of previous owners and he had a missing year gap in his life up until we bought him.

Lovely person PM'd me last night to say she found coblet in a sales, scruffy, hairy, muddy and covered in cuts. He was in a corner stable being beaten by a man, who looked very angry. He was rearing and boxing out, riddled with fear. Im not going to name names, but HHO member tried to bid on him to take him home because they felt sorry for him, but was out bid by one of our very favourite dealers on here  Had him for a month, sedated him up and sold him to us, as a 'childs hunting pony'. Ppffftt!
No one knows what happened to him during that missing year, but it wasnt pretty :(

I feel so sorry for him, yet so happy that he now has a forever home and has learned to trust someone for the first time in his life. I feel if I hadn't have bought him, he would have been PTS :(

I don't know why im telling of this, I just feel I need to vent :(

Coffee for all :)

Oh bless him!

Finding out their past really shows you why they're like they are doesn't it!

Good on you for not giving up on him. It is so clear that he trusts you and loves you to death, and the other way round of course!

Lucky Lucky Coblet :)

Gah sent too early! Was going to say at least you know what happened so you can gain a better understanding. He is lucky to have found a lovely forever home :-)

Oh bless him! What awful awful people!

Just think that is all behind him now and you and he both know that he will be well loved and looked after now:-)

Oh bless him, how awful :( it is absolutely disgusting what happens to these horses. Lucky for the ones that land on their feet. How is he now? Does he have any issues as a result of his past?

I've just bought an Irish horse that was imported a month ago that I've managed to find his old owner , but not got round to contacting her yet! But my other mare was imported from Holland, and what I am led to believe was the holland meat market :/ she has a lump on her head what what the vet said could only be 'extreme trauma' and some white marks behind it- and she shows signs of having known hunger a few people have said- she was nervous and difficult to start with but now she is just fab and so deserves the nice home she has :) I can trust her 100% to look after anyone- the type to always trot up and behave all the time!

Sources tell me that the woman who sold me this pony bought horses from jamie gray from that amersham place.. which sounds admirable enough that she took them off him- but she also sent them back if she didn't like them :(...

Bless him :-( do you just have him as a companion

Nope, we've been through a heck of a lot but he is proving to be an amazing pony! Gets placed at almost every dressage competition, and competes in SJ up to 3'3 :D He's in my sig, and i think you can see some photos of him on my profile?! :)

It's awful to think what he went through and to think of how many horses and ponies are going through that right now.

But so wonderful to hear how he is happy and loved now. Sounds like you have done a great job of building his trust in people back up.

Just looked at some of your pics and he is fab!:D

Poor boy :( At least he's happy and has a lovely home now though :) I also found info on my mare's past through here and although it was sad it did explain some things that she does so it was kind of helpful in a way and I'm just glad she's safe now :)

Exactly, although we know he's obviousualy ended up somewhere and been beaten, we never knew what happened to him. Even now he backs away from men, my dad is fairly 'butch', just like the HHOer said the man was like in the sales (although my dad isnt scary and evil!) and if he goes near him he will back away from his head being touched, but he will let others stroke his head. He loves my dad to pieces, he walks the dog and meets him at the gate every morning to meet him, will follow him like a lost sheep!
He just has that memory and insecurity of men touching his head!

Oh poor lad! That's horrible to even imagine what he has been through. But it's so wonderful now he is with you, who clearly loves the ground he walks on. What a lucky Coblet to have found his "forever" home. That brought tears to my eyes. How can people treat them like that! I am so pleased you and he now share your lives together.

Thank you :)

Some horses never get that faith and trust back so well done on getting there with him. He looks great and like he really enjoys his new life!

Very well done with him. I'm so so glad that he's found his way to you :) His past will probably never fully leave him but you've helped him overcome his fears and learn to trust again. He's turned out to be a cracking little pony and all credit to you for sticking with it against all the odds :) Wish you many years of fun with your little lad :) x

Oh bless him, it's amazing you've come this far with him after everything he's been through! Sounds just like mine... Passed from person to person, ended up at sales, then to a dealer... Came to me a scruffy, skinny little thing with a bucket load of problems but such a loveable personality! :)

I can only hope I'm as successful as you've been... Dealer: "Oh yes he's wonderful and bombproof, a novice's horse all around..." Not so sure, I've got the bruises to prove that wrong thank you! Awesome instructor has bullied the living daylights out of said dealer and we're going back next week for a reassessment finally!

But it's so nice hearing yours and coblets' story... Much respect for you, it really gives me hope that something can be done when you love the horse enough!
