Have been feeding Blue Bailey's No 4 cubes a scoop a day for coming up for 2 weeks now (have got through 1 bag) if anything he seems to be way slower (when ridden) than he was before!

I had this problem with Calm and Condition which is why i stopped feeding that - he ended up TOO calm!

Its happening again with the Baileys, he's got REALLY slow again!

What can i feed him alongside it to give him a bit more energy?

Um he's the coloured in my avatar, 16hh, 8yo, gets worked 6 days a week for 30-40 mins mostly schooling but with a bit of hacking/jumping.

Lives out at the moment but will come in at night end of October.

Feeding him it as i want something to help him fill out a bit and build a bit more muscle - he currently has the Baileys cubes, along with alfa oil and speedibeet.

He's needing about 6 kilos of "hard feed" a day so I would say 1 scoop a day is not enough. Personally I would up the Baileys to twice what you're using for weight gain.

What have you changed him from to this? Remember that essentially to put on weight or muscle you will need to increase the amount of feed you give your horse.

How much does he weigh presently?

Sorry lots of questions but need all the info before can give correct advice.

Before i was feeding him mix instead of the baileys.

Haven't been able to feed him in the mornings lately, but was thinking of giving him the scoop of baileys split into two feeds, so half in the morning and half in the evening?

Its not so essential now but i would like to keep him at this weight/condition throughout winter which is why i've started to try the baileys!

I have no idea how much he weighs will try to find a recent ish photo of him: well i would but photobucket itsn't working so i can't

He certainly soulds like he could do with another feed, remember when uping his feed they can only cope with 2 kilos at one sitting.

If you can feed him twice a day then I would give a scoop in the morning and a scoop at night plus your Alfa oil and speedibeet. You might also find a feed balancer handy too. Top spec do one which is v good or even NAF Pink Powder. these enable the horse to utilise the feed he's getting.

P.S. If you've no idea how much he weighs, how do you worm him?

I swear by Bailys Low cal, its great for conditioning but wont put weight on if thats what you need. My cob has been on it now for 12 months, he's on a very strict deit, has great top line and coat and is happy in his work. I up'd the feed to 3 mugs a day from 2 and saw a big difference in his motivation!

How does he cope with mix as opposed to a cube? I can't feed mixes to my coloured trad mare because the boiled peas and flaked maize is like rocket fuel to her, so she has a cube and is a lot more laid back.

Um to be honest, no feed we've had him on has wound him up in the slightest, my friend's horse went potty on some mix we fed both his horse and Blue and Blue was just the same as ever! Nothing seems to have much effect on him.... apart from maybe making him a little slower.

Though he hasn't been too bad the past couple of nights.

I don't really need weight on, i need to keep the weight he has throughout the winter, and would like some help to build him up muscle wise
