It depends on how sweaty the horse is & the weather.
I try to walk at least the last mile home so they arrive home nicely cooled down but I have a very fizzy anglo arab who sometimes thinks that being forced to walk home is grossly unfair, so there have been times when despite being a bright bay she closely resembles a skewbald when we get home. If the weather is mild she is hosed off & turned straight out, as she settles quicker turned out, in the winter she is sponged down, has a cooler on & is turned out when she's dry.
She has very sensative skin & gets a sweat rash, so I make sure any sweat is washed off.
