Have decided not to ride through pregnancy but I am very keen to start up again soon afterwards.

I realise that everyone is different but I'd appreciate some points of view as i'm going crazy here with 3 months left to go

THanks

I would guess if everything goes smoothly then as soon as you feel ready. I suppose if you have loads of stitches (OUCH!!!!) you would probably want to wait! LOL!! Of course if you have to have a caesarian then it would be longer and you would need to take medical advice on this.

One of women at our yard had a natural birth abd was riding 2 weeks later with stiches ( youch! ). My friend had a C section and has been riding from 4 1/2 weeks later, inc lessons.

depends on who you ask!
a doctor/midwife will tell you to wait until your six week check up, however everyone else (me included) will say when ever you are ready!
please bear in mind however to check your insurance, if you ride before you are signed off by a doctor you may not be covered for personal injury.

with my first i had a c section and was riding 5 weeks after with my wound still open as i had major infection for 6 months. with my second about 3 months as i had stitches and they hurt more than a c section

i rode about a week later however my trainer competed the day after(major qualifier)so i suppose its all down to how your feeling...

I know someone who got on at 12 days after last year, but she'd had a really good pregnancy, I suppose that it all depends really

i rode straight after about 2 days but i had a natural birth i did ask my midwife though of her advice about would it be a good idea so depending on birth and how it goes also just ask your midwife on advice about it to see if she would recommend it

Can't remember how soon I got back on, only that wearing two bras helped - as I was breastfeeding! Oh, and that I had a bruised cocsix (not sure how this is spelt) which made things a bit uncomfortable (- though in hindsight this made my position bad, and I have had to work very hard to convince my brain that it does not hurt anymore, so I can return to sitting deep in th saddle)

Depends very much on your fitness and type of pregnancy.

With my first I rode up till the week before, had a natural birth and was back on in ten days. The second, however, I had to give up riding completley at 5 months as I was too uncomfortable, naural birth again, rode again about six weeks after. I was nowhere near as fit with the second.

Thanks guys I was just after a ball park figure so that I had an idea.

He will be well wintered off by then so i think i will wait and see and maybe ride him off the field first to see how it goes.

Thanks again

I think a lot of it depends on the type of birth you have - assumably if you tear/are cut then you'll be pretty sore! I rode again 10 days after having my second - to be honest it's not so much discomfort or pain but finding the time and energy!
