As title really, my new boy arrived about 4 weeks ago now (imported from spain) and has settled in brilliantly, going out in the field every day (unheard of out there :(), riding nicely even with a digger behind the school and is generally very sweet and easy to handle. So, how long would you wait to take him out to his first outing, is there an unwritten rule as to how long you should wait or is it up to the individual?
I only ask as there is a little spring show at patchetts in 2 weeks would be good to go to, i dont drive and only have 4 total outings planned this year so would ideally like to do this one as its quite close so not much travelling and is much smaller and quieter than the ones later in the year so would be a good way to break him in gently and see how he reacts to everything, although if its like most other things he'll be far more interested in food to care!

A couple of pics just cos he's so lovely:D

I would go for it, what's the worse that could happen? I'd enter one class, and put no pressure on yourself to even ride in that class. Arrive early, let the show build up around him. I took mine to his first ever show two weeks ago, I'd had him 3 months. He was not only a pro in the warmup, a gem in the indoor but he also got placed. I felt nervous too but kept thinking, really, what's the worst that could happen. In the end, mine didn't want to come home ha!

yep id go too. I normally take mine out the 2nd week they are with me if they are looking good. what are you planning on doing with him? dressage?

Thanks for your replies everyone, may well take him along just for a bit of fun based on that, its only a bit of low key showing and the way he's taken everything else in his stride im sure he'll be fine, plus he loves fuss and attention so any oppurtunity for that im sure will go down very well:D
