How soon?

I have got to have a carpel tunnel operation on my right wrist.

What I'd like to know is how soon can I ride and do all the other horse things after I have it done?

Does it hurt much as I am a wimp?!

Some of you lovely forumnites must have had it done before!

Someone i know has carpel tunnel, she has had one operation and has been off work for weeks,when its healed she is having the other one done.

It must take a while to heal,looking after a horse is like work so be and dont rush it.

Unfortunately I have had several surgeries, including CTS. Out of the ones I have done this was the only one done under local (so don't feel bad afterwards), spent about 30 mins in theatre, bandaged up (wearing a half-cast) & out some day. Bandage & stiches came out 2 weeks later, never looked back. Was warned I'd probably need it re-done every 10 years, but with that being all there is too it what the hell. Think I had to take 3 weeks off work due to driving. No real pain, just some stiffness from it being held in one place for 2 weeks.

It really is a walk in the park, nothing to worry about. I was riding as soon as I was back to work. They only snip through some outer structures, not like they touch muscles / bones / nerves so there really isn't anything to recover from. The pain in the hand reduces (ie improves) immediately due to the pressure release, so you will feel much better than you do now. Get it done, you wont look back.

Mine was done 4 years ago, starting to come back but I draw using a mouse all day so I am a very intesive user & high risk, as such not surprising. I have tiny upside down cross shaped scar in the creases of my hand/wrist, would have to make a point of showing you for them to be seen. No-one would ever pick up on them unless I said.

Nothing to worry about, you can pick things up immediaely despite dressing, I just tried to avoid lifting heavy objects whilst it was on. Big tip, cover dressing in vet wrap, which you can then change every couple of days to prevent it becoming dirty/smelly (which is a dead give away to the consultant what you've been up to).
