Anyway what i was wondering is he has recovered from a bout of laminitis on one front leg, now vet said no excercise and put in tiny paddock, farrier said still small paddock but get him out riding, which ok i will but where do i start?? i have been walking him out hand for up t 30 mins, can i get on him?? just looking for an idea of how long to walk for and when i can introduce trot???

thanks [image]

Depends on when he had the laminitis and is he sound? If he is not sound on hard ground then I would not ride him, he should be on box rest. If he is sound then you could ride him in walk for a couple of weeks for 30 mins, then introduce trot for short basts a couple of times in the ride, gradually building the walk trot up by 10 mins a day. This is how I got mine back to fitness; took about 8 weeks altogether to do 2/3 hour hacks.

I do not know about laminitics, but when my horse had a tendon injury he was walked out in hand and we gradually increased his walking time. When he got to 45 minutes, I started to sit on him as he was sound and comfortable and it did not in anyway compromise his welfare.

As long as he was sound, comfortable and happy, give it a try. If in doubt, check with your vet.

I agree with this. And good on you for taking everyone's advice, you look much better on this horse =) Well done x

I agree with the previous posts- never had lammi/tendon probs but after a fractured cannon bone vet told me to srat off walking 10-15 min daily, and gradually buid up to tro then canter - its taken since last october when I got the all clear to fully build my lad up - slow and sure is best for the long-term

BTW - you look great on your grey, saw your posts the other day..
