Everytime I tell someone I ride, they ALWAYS make a joke about 'do they make horses big enough for you to ride' and they think that they are being funny, even though I must have heard this comment too many times to recall.... *sigh*

I'm just over 6'2" tall with a 37" inside leg - my horse is a 17.1hh (approx 5yo still growing) MW type.....

My last horse was a 17.3hh HW hunter type....

Sometimes I really do wish I could own/ride something a little smaller!!

So, c'mon peeps..... how tall are you, and how tall is your horse???

I don't own a horse, but ride a variety. I'm 5ft8 and ride all different types. I used to ride a 17.2 tb but then fell in love with ponies again so I started riding 14.2s again :p
Horse I'm looking to buy is between 15.2-16.1 :) x

Gorgeous pics xx

I am 5'8" and Belle is 16.2hh. Having said that, I did ride a 14.2hh cobby not that long ago and I actually didn't look too big for him, much to my surprise. I think you could easily get away with something quite a bit smaller if it took up some leg. There's a 6' something chap on here somewhere that rides a little NF I believe!

i'm about 5ft 8 - ride long and have two 14.2hh arabs..i look taller on them that you do on your 17hh+ but then i can ride bigger horses without looking small. I can imagine it must be hard for you :( i have a friend who's 5ft10 and she's always complaining that she's too tall on the horses ::(

I'm 5' 6" my own horse is 16.3 hh (cos I have to share with OH!) share fella is 15.2 hh. I keep forgetting how short share fella is - hitting the ground early = pain!!

I'm about 6'1" / 6'2" and my horse is a 16.1hh TB, I do look a bit big on him but he carries me fine (I think!).

I regularly ride a 14.2hh pony and have even been known to squish a 12.2hh every so often. I missed out on pony years which is a shame as I really love them.

Im just over 5ft9 and ride a 17hh horse. Before that I had a 14.3hh MW cob and trust me I looked a lot bigger on him then you do on either of yours!! Can upload a picture if you want ;)

Gorgeous horses and you look absolutely fine on both of them! I'm 5'10" and my horse is 16.2 - wouldn't want to go much smaller tbh (though I do long to whizz around on nippy ponies from time to time :D )

my daughters friend Jayne is about 6' now, shes 17 years old and has always towered over all of us, she has a 15.2hh and a 11.2hh !! She doesn't look too bad on the 15.2, still a bit long in the leg but not too bad.

I ride anything from 13.1hh (daughters mare) to 16.3hh (sisters mare), my own mare is 14.3hh but then I am only 5'3" lol and I feel safer closer to the ground!

They are stunning horses and you look great on them both xxx Take no notice of the idiots x

I am 5 foot 5 with short legs. My boy is 14.3 hh mw cob with short legs. We look perfect together. I am not joking either, I am not too tall or too short for him and hes not too tall or too short for me.

I am 5'4 and my horses are 16.1 and 15.1 (used to be 15.3 before a wither-crushing accident)... Feel about right on both.
Was given a 13hh welshie to break in a couple of years ago and loved her so much I considered keeping her! Even took her to some local shows, and won a prelim dressage class which I took to mean that I didn't look THAT ridiculous on her.. or at least not to the point of cruelty!
Also regularly ride 19hh shire. it is like sitting on a dinosaur. I expect that does look a bit ridiculous.

Knocking on 5'2 on tiptoes and a good day.

My own riding horse is 14h, others we have are from 15h to 15.3h

I'm 5'11/6ft , Nelson's a 15.2hh Thoroughbred (I was 5'4/5'5 when I started riding him!) and I still pootle around on him now even though I'm probably a bit tall for him. Paddy's a 17hh Thoroughbred and I look a lot better on him. I've ridden a friend's 14.1hh cob mare and just looked a bit leggy, also ridden a 13.2hh Welsh B for a friend but only a few months re-schooling.

I think so long as the horse can carry you no problems and you're happy on it, it doesn't matter how big it is :D

I'm 5ft and Koko is a fine 14.3 (just). I can ride bigger horses well if they are responsive to my leg aids but if they are not I don't make a difference with them. Personally I'm comfortable on a 14.3.

I'm 5'6 and my horse is 15.2hh. My last mare was 16.1hh.

I wouldnt really be comfortable on anything smaller than 15.2hh unless its a maxi cob. But its more a weight issue for me than height (joined the gym today! Go me!).

I'm loving both your horses and you look really good on them :)

I'm 5ft6" and weight next to nothing but have a 33" inside leg. I had a 15hh who was quite slim and sometimes I found myself poking his shoulder with my toe. The latest edition is a 16hh TB who is not quite 2 1/2 yrs so he should still have growing to do. Tried him (racehorse) and felt fine on him but being of a tiny frame he feels taller I think as he's so slim!

He'll probably get washed or blown away in winter so don't know why i'm sounding so pleased he'll grow!!! :D

im 5ft 10, and my horse is only 15 1hh :)
height isnt so much a factor I dont think. so long as the horse is up to your weight, height is just down to wether or not you feel comfortable on a smaller horse :)
