im a confident rider but my newbie is testing me a little.....

he can be spooky but i NEED to bite the bullet and go for a hack on him :s

i have a lovely friend who will be coming out with me leading her horse so i wont be on my own, but my stomach is doing back flips and tbh i am dreading our first outing. i love hacking too so i dont want to be really nervous about what he will/wont do because i know that will make him worse

advice please to calm my nerves and anything else that may help... apart from dutch courage lol

I felt like this with my boy, he can be a bit nervy and used to nap. So I spent time long Lining him down the lanes until he was used to the route, so when I got on (with company) he was fine.

I can now hack out alone, no probs :)

Have you walked him down the route you will be going? I feel that this will be very beneficial to you before just getting on and going.

And, just remember you have to give him a chance. You have to trust him before you know what he's going to do.

have tried yes, he is very very strong even if in a bridle and bit, very bargy and pushy, he is getting there with his manners but trying to teach manners on a road is not good idea. so would be better for me to ride where i have alot more control :s .... hopefully :o
