Well, I clipped Haddy today. It was quite successful... He stood well until I had to do between his pront legs, in his armpit and by his willy

He also cow kicks when you are near his willy and rushed forward inbetween his legs.

Is there any way that will make it any less tickley for him?

Thanks in advance,
E

Well hopefully he's not as bad as mine, who has fluffy tuffs sprouting and we only clipped him once a year as too much hassel!!! Just learn to live with it!!! (mines 1/4 welsh cob and has black fluffy coat and then where clipped is light silver so very obvious!!!)
Well ACP may help or the vet and dope is another answer but be warned they can still kick when doped and they don't give as much warning when doped.

Do you know if he has been clipped much in his past ?
Try the following :
little and often. dont try the 'whole clip' in one session. do the tricky bits next day. often horses just have had enough... and we all tend to leave the fiddly bits to last. you haven't had him long... he will trust you more with time.wait til he is relaxed & a bit hungry... after excercise... give him a scrummy haynet with 'best' hay in it while you clip... and above all... get someone to help you armed with polos or nuts...so that he knows he's being good while you tackle those tricky bits!!!

If he's worried by the noise is there another horse that really doesn't care about being clipped and stand them together while you clip. This is how we clip our babies for the first time. Have them stood there whilst old one clipped and get use to noise etc and then move onto them.

Have the same problem so mine has a hairy belly and two hairy back legs which look like horrible stockings! Going to try ACP tabs tomorrow??? She is not being naughty just tickly like yours.

Your lucky that’s all he does! Lol, My sisters grey gelding, even after the “elephant dose” as the vets call it of dope

, tries to crawl up the walls! Eeek! And then starts to sweat, so it’s like a glorified time trial! But he has been better with newer clippers which are less noisy, and don’t vibrate as much as the big old beafy ones! Happy clipping!!

I have a sensitive TB mare who has tickle spots I always get on and do these first with someone holding a front leg up tp stop her moving (to prevent me cutting her!) she twitches her skin while you try and do it so I just press firmly and do it quickly! She then stands happily without even being tied up while i do the rest of her.
