My mare has just come back from Rossdales and has finally started to relax and not be so manic, however she is very bonded with her best friend, who has started doing more work so will be out of the field for a couple of hrs most days, there are other horses out but I have a feeling my mare who should be only wandering round the field will go crazy, I doubt she will be any more settled in a stable if I could get her in it, she wont eat sedalin. I have the option of getting a companion pony for her which could go back after the 8-10 weeks, but Im not sure it will be good enough as it isnt her best friend.

Does anyone have any ideas please???

True separation anxiety is hard to handle. If you can leave her in the field on her own knowing she will run about but not come over the fence, then do that.

If you get a companion pony and it goes back after a few weeks, then you will have the same problem all over again.

However bad her anxiety is, she will get better as the routine of friend going and them coming back becomes established.

Try giving a distraction - hay or a feed while the other horse is going. Eventually she will settle down the graze again, unless she has true separation anxiety in which case, she is better brought in.

Does she stress roll when the other horse goes? Call? Or just run around for a bit?
