As title - both seem lovely, Coniston very slightly more comfortable but supicious of the zip in terms of longevity and reliability when its muddy.....

Any opinions?

I love my Grasmeres (and Glaciers which can be had for a very good price new from an ebay seller atm - not me I hasten to add!) and can be found wading up to mid-calf in them. I wouldn't want to do that with the Conistons:D

Aargh, don't give me MORE choices!! What is the difference between the Grasmere and the Glacier?

The glaciers are the all leather version of the grassmeres, I prefer them as i dont like suede and am waiting for mine to arrive right now!

However if the conistons had done up Idve had them as I love how traditional looking they are :D

the suede on the grasmeres can go a funny colour, The glaciers are easier to keep looking good.

Thanks all - I think I'll go for the Glacier, never been that keen on suede shoes! It's weird, I've looked at loads of sites that sell Ariats, and none of them list the Glacier, but when you look for it specifically it's easy to find. So I wouldn't have found it if you hadn't suggested it - thank you!!

If you've made a decision I don't want to complicate things BUT in favour of the Conistons I have this to say:

1. When one of my zips went (after 2 years) Ariat sent me a brand new pair; AND

2. No matter how cold it is I only have to wear one pair of socks and I can always feel my toes (and I have Reynauds so this is pretty amazing).

Love my Conistons. I've never tried any of the others though....

Well i have to admit i am a massive Ariat fan! i have many boots inc Conistons,Bromonts and Windermere's! Greedy i know! Conistons are gorge, sooo comfy and smart but the zips go (mine went after 5 mths of hardly any use, could i ask Ariat for new zips? moved house and lost receipt though which was in original box) The Windermere's are fab for riding and dog walking,i also can get away with going to Waitrose in them too. I was very close to getting a pair of Glacier's also, much preferred them to the Grasmere's (which everyone at anything horsey i go to has inc Dubarry's which i've gone off totally) If you want to keep them really nice and arn't going to be to knee deep in mud i'd say Conistons,if you want to do all yard chores etc and keep them for a long time without fault i'd say the Glaciers would be more robust. Hope that's of some help :)

could i ask Ariat for new zips?

They didn't send me new zips - they sent me a whole new pair of boots!!!! All i did was ring up and ask if they could recommend anyone to replace the zip....

I wear mine all round the yard, muddy fields and muck heap and they don't seem to mind - so much warmer than my wellies!

Thinking back I did send them a email at the time it happened and they said to send the boots to them with the receipt (thought it was a different set of boots but remember now it was def the Coniston pair) unfortunately just after that i had major family problems that took over and i never got round to it. Maybe i should try ringing them? I got them when they literally first came out and paid top price for them so was a bit disappointed! Thanks for your help.

I have the Glaciers and have had them for over 3 years and they are still as good as new. They keep my feet really warm with just one pair of thin socks on. They're great!

I think you made a good choice, I have Glaciers and have been ankle deep in mud in them and they were perfect. They are beautifully warm. I went to feed my chickens early this morning in my pyjamas and stuck my boots on with no socks and my feet were still warm! The doing up and undoing can be a bit of a faff but I like how the laces mean you can tailor them to your leg shape. They were the only ones that fit my legs as they're too skinny for most boots!

I find mine really easy to keep clean. Hose them down, scrub off the mud, leave to dry and then put on some leather care, I use Nikwax.

I used to work on a yard so was doing daily yard chores including lots of mud as well as sharing a horse so riding in them and go for walks in them too when it's cold. They were great in the snow of last year!

ETA; I'm usually a size 7 but had to get a 6.5 in these as they run a bit on the large side.

Sorry for hijacking this thread a bit but yes I'd say it might be worth giving them a call, they were lovely to me so if you explain you never know....good luck!

Ho hum, now I'm back to dithering again.... I really like the look of the Conistons...... but there is the suede aspect to consider.......
