I have waist-length thick shiny (slippery) hair that I need to put up on Sunday. I've always been rubbish at putting my hair up so any tips on how to make it stay put for the day would be great! Normally I ride with a plait down my back, but that won't be suitable. I'm hoping to get some time to practice this week!

Plait it as usual, then fold it up and tuck it into itself a few times (like if you were doing rosebud plaits on a horse), and then add a tight scrunchie to keep it in place.

ETA: and if you're better at looking prim and proper than I am, add a hairnet into the recipe

My daughter has very thick, waist-length hair - she plaits it, coils it up, secures it with a couple of hair bands, puts a hair net over everything and secures that with a tight scrunchie. It stays in place throughout a ODE so it's pretty secure.
