How to dry off a wet, hairy horse?

When I eventually got back home this morning, Marnie was soaking wet with sweat. She has a thick coat and I am not able to clip her. I have tried thatching her, but unfortunately she reacts to straw - last time I did it, she was throwing herself down in the stable driven mad by the itching - she has very sensitive pink skin - and I thought cobs were supposed to be tuff!

I have left her with a fleece on, it is dry and bright here, but there is a definitie nip in the air. I am sure that when I go back later, she will still be wet. Anyone any good recommendations for rugs with good drying properties?

Thanks!

With Mae i put a sweatrug on her and stuff straw inside, i dont have a thermatex, but would love one. Hint hint to OH if he takes a nosey on this!

I find the weatherbeeta fleeces to be very good

If you're ever in the Equestrian section of "Go Sport" in Cite Europe (Calais) I found a useful towelling rug in there. Maybe they sell them in England though I can't say I've ever seen them. It's useful to put on a wet horse and give a good rub down. I would then put a waffle cooler on once the worst was off.

I've got the Aerborn version of the Thermatex, it's excellent. Hve to say though, we just chuck our horses back in the field, they live out with no rugs at the moment, we tend to ride in the mornings so they've got the rest of the day to dry off/stop sweating!

Thermatex from me to!

Dan is currently unclipped and normally unrugged at the mo, despite my best efforts not to get him overly hot when I rode he got rather sweaty this evening. 15 mins with the thermatex on and he had dried off so had a quick brush to remove sweat marks and all sorted and ready for bed!

What about these 'Magic Towels'? Bro has just bought a couple for drying off his car. I believe you can get horsey versions too? His look like pale blue babies blankets. I'm going to pinch one to dry the inside of my car windscreen when it condensates!

We tipped some water on the work surface and then wiped this towel over it and it soaked it up quicker than tissue.

I wonder whether if you stuck a couple under a rug they would soak up the sweat?
