Selenium sulphide removes dead skin scales and scurf, which provide the food source for mites. True, the selenium itself does not kill the mites, but they cannot live on clean skin. Scrubbing right down to the soles of the feet catches the mites that will inevitably be washed down the leg and lodge around the heel/frog area. Sorry for any confusion.
This is really interesting.
We found selsun gold (in the yellow bottle) really good for our dog's fleas and our kids lice during a good old lice plague at the school. AND, we found that if we more or less regularly used it on the kids, they never got lice.
Regarding the dog's fleas, they seemed to really really hate that shampoo.
