Has anyone experience of finding private stables and grazing to rent?I'm getting too long in the tooth to cope with livery yard politics and antics and long for my own place (3 horses, Rochdale area). Where are the best places to advertise? I don't really fancy just knocking on doors and bothering people . Neither do I want current YO to know I'm looking around just yet. Thanks if you can advise.♥

You could place an ad in the Farmers Guardian. Also local agri merchants and knock on doors and ask I know you dont want to but I found a place like this and became a friend of the farmers family. Good Luck I hope you find a good place for you and your horses.

Letter drop - have a good drive round to identify possible candidates and then put together a nice note outlining your intended use etc and then drop it through the door with your contact details. It worked for me when I was looking for a rented field for sheep. I think it helps as it gives the owner a chance to think about things before contacting you. Good luck!

Another thought, utility companies and councils own suprising amounts of land. I once rented off my local council and also an electric company. A friend of mine rents from Severn Trent water. I think it would be worth your while contacting your local council and finding out who owns what, also the Land Registry. Councils and utility companies can be suprisingly cheap as they tend to only charge agricultural rents eg £100 per acre per year, and not per horse.
