So me and my girl were getting on extreamly well went to our first show together and got a double clear round was on top of the world and so proud of her. so anyway we were ment to be heading on another show on friday past so decided on thursday to do some practice jumping so of course when i take my girl up to the arena she starts squealing at the other horses so realise she must be coming into season but thought she would be fine. went into arena got started was a bit strong but not mental jumped few jumps lovely then all of a sudden stopped dead and off i pop got back on tried again cleared then all a sudden 90 degree spin and off i pop, got on again and cleared jump then changed rein jumped lovely couple of times then sudden stop and off i pop again got back on and jumped lovely and left it at that. but anyway have a sprained ankle and possibly bruised every other bone just wondered if anyone can offer me any advice on how to gain confidence as feeling quite nervous around her now. have turned her out for few days til she hopefully settles.

This happened to me last month 2 falls on one day then one the following week, same thing made in season acting very unlike her usual self! The only thing I can say us take your time, get a lesson or two, put your plans on hold for a few weeks and go back to basics, will take time to build the trust again.

had the same problem with one of our mares when she was coming into season :/ and often you don't see it coming which makes the confidence crisis worse. Best thing to do is start of schooling on the flat with a few trotting poles and lots of transitions until she is listening to you 100 %. If she's not got her head in the game as it were theres a possibility she could start stopping again. It takes a good mare to concentrate fully when in season so the best thing to do would be to start small and work upwards. Don't let it knock your confidence too much, you clearly have good riding ability it just sucks when 1 bad day schooling can make you feel as if you don't know how to ride! Good luck :)

Thanks everyone yes i just have to think of all the good times we have had and she wont be in season forever joys of having a mare!! Just normally would get on with it a falls a falks but havnt really properly hurt myself untill this episode but just have to work through it could of been worse could of been on the grass rather than the softer rubber school floor!!
