Doesn't look like he needs any more weight to me and if he does, do what you did before if it suits him.
My tb always did well on ad lib hay and or grass with a token low sugar feed of either fast fibre or mollasses free chaff with a good mineral supplement.

He looks like he's in beautiful condition. However, if you're worried about him dropping weight over winter, I found that the best diet for my Thoroughbred mare was ad-lib haylage, Healthy Tummy and Fast Fibre.

Yes this photo was taken on Sunday, I just don't want him to lose any weight over the winter also I'll be competing him a lot over the rest of this year with lots of RoR stuff and I just need him looking well without blowing his brain

i feed my lad baileys endurance mix. it has the outshine added into it which works wonders on him. It also doesn't blow his brain. also got great results with him on copra coolstance.

I have to be careful with my tb as she is intolerant to a lot of feeds - calm and condition that the rest of the yard swears by sends her insane as does alfalfa.
I keep her on winergy low energy and if she needs anything extra over winter I add Bailey's outshine. She is on ablib hay as well.
And I echo the above - your boy looks great!

He looks well :) To keep weight on mine over the winter (mare drops weight when work slackens off and I can't ride as often in the week in winter), we add boiled barley & linseed to their feed. Prep it in a water boiler - same as they use for boiling water in canteens, a big sccop of barley, mug of linseed and top up with water, cook over night. Not heating but great for maintaining weight.

I've tried all the weight gain feeds have to say the only one that worked for me was Re-leve.
I know it's not a weight gain feed but it did put weight on him and he has kept his condition really well over the last winter. I think because it is low in starch and sugar and also contains equ-jewel and stamm it just gives them everything at the right levels :)

Otherwise I would make sure had ad-lib hay (mine would easily eat a bale of hay a day) and you could always add boiled barley, but at the moment looks lovely! :)

To play devils advocate, Releve gradually made mine lose weight and lose his marbles and made my sisters boy lose weight and upset his ulcers too...

I've since worked out he is pea, rice bran and alfalfa intolerant...

He does well on Winergy Conditioning (can have max 3 scoops of this due to alfalfa content), mollichaff calmer (alfalfa free and extra fibre), soaked rolled oats, micronised linseed and ad lib haylage. He goes out all day, every day on good quality grass too.

Sisters horse does well on a cereal based diet, loves the Havens Slobbermash, with a mix of oats and linseed (plus a handful of maize).

Both are barefoot ex racers.

I find that good quality ad lib hay/haylage usually does the trick. Filling them with high energy starch and sugar in a bucket feed twice in the grand scheme of things won't have have a great impact apart from blowing their minds compared to filling to their tums with what they are eating 24/7 (in my opinion)

My TB does get a bucket feed in winter to get his supplements so he can utilise as much as possible from the forage, I add linseed too and can up this if he needs a little more condition. At the moment he's looking at little to well!

Mine looked just like your and same weights too this last month Ive added linseed and lysine (ebay) too his diet and the muscle and weight has improved yet again. He has fast fibre hi fi and sometimes calm and condition plus plenty of hay . Lovely seeing them improve :)

I think he looks great, well done.

In winter i use a balancer, was on top spec comprehensive which is great but very expensive so saracen essential instead. Saracen alfa pellets, same as simple system lucie pellets but cheaper. Alfa a molasses free chaff. conditioning cubes, low starch and sugars, global herbs restore tonic (i really rate this), mazola oil (corn oil), speedi beet if he needs it. Worst case scenario if it is a bad winter is Saracen Equi-jewel, 1 bag usually does what is needed in feb. My horse put weight on using calm and condition but really struggled eating the amount he needed in winter.

I also use ad lib hay.

Mine sounds similar to yours Baileybones! Can get very fizzy on feeds others find fine. I can't even feed him unmolassed sugarbeet

My solution was the same as yours. Winergy Low Energy. Winergy and ad lib hay. I have used Blue Chip balancer in winter but not sure it made a different. I also feed micronised linseed

For my TB I feed her ad lib haylage, try not to give her too much hard feed as it can fry her brain!
I feed her fast fibre, calm and condition and a feed balancer. If I need a little extra I give her Alfa Oil chaff.

I try to avoid all cereals, keep feeds low sugar, low starch because of risk of ulcers.

IMO the last couple of pictures he looks awesome!
I find mine looks better in work, when we get a nice big ass and top line.
And she can look a little poor when not in work

Good luck with the ROR classes xx

We feed grass nuts if anything drops condition, with speedibeet if needed. We are always super wary of feeding anything else, having had a mare who was intolerant of sugar and cereal (previous owner bought her in poor condition and stuffed her with food) and currently have one intolerant of alfalfa. Grass nuts are brill :)
