How to get a fussy feeder to eat progressive earth!

my horse isn't a fussy eater and I had to give up as he would only eat it during the winter! in the summer when there was more grass he would absolutely refuse his feed, and that is unheard of!

I've been looking at getting some of their balancer, but haven't bought it yet as has been put off by people saying their horses won't eat it, it's not cheap to be spat on the floor! I'm wondering if feeding some rather than none is still worth it though, as I don't think they'll ever accept the recommended daily amounts, they are so suspicious of anything being added to their food

She eats it eventually when the haylage runs out overnight 🙃 thankfully she is many things but not a bucket tipper.

Apple juice helps, when I'm feeling kind. I also swapped from a premium one to the Pro Balance Plus A which still has a good spec, but I'm less resentful about her wasting.

I was adding carrots/apples/bananas/orange juice when I trialled PO balancer mixed with speedibeet. It’s the only balancer they’ve really not been keen on, and generally they usually eat anything put infront of them. They really were not keen and ate their bowl 3x the usual time!
The sweet things offset whatever foul taste they were objecting to!
Speedibeet amount was about 2 double heaped handfuls…likely 2 stubbs scoops - so I was diluting the balancer powder well enough.

I found beetroot powder good for disguising the taste, plus it's good for them. Also making up feeds and mixing minerals in just before feeding. If the feeds sat around for a while they were less interested.

I started with a tiny amount- just a sprinkle- for my boy and have gradually built it up. I used to give to him before he had hay or a fence move. He will now happily eat half the scoop in a feed, which is ok as he is a pony. He has pro laminae plus, which has improved his feet and possibly helped shift some of his fat pads. He has cushing.

My mare eats anything so has always cleared her bowl. She has pro veteran

They both have it with mollichaff light- it's the only chaff that fussy boy will eat that doesn't send hungry girl crazy.

My horse is quite fussy and I got him to eat it by adding in the tiniest amount (a tiny pinchful) and increasing it very slowly. I also had to add in Thunderbrooks organic meadow nuts, alongside some chaff, and he eats it quite happily now.

Mine scoffs anything but she started refusing her feeds with Pro Earth so I switched to Forage plus. She was ok initially but then refused that as well. Now she's on Equibalancer MetaTrim and no further problems. The spec isn't quite as good but it's suiting her very well.

One of mine I literally have to start with what I can pinch between thumb and little finger, whatever the supplement. 1 pinch, 2, 4, it takes me a fortnight sometimes to be up to full dose never mind loading doses! It applies to 'flavourings' used to disguise other things too, so I gave up with those quite quickly! The other - who refusd to eat anything at all when I got her - eats PE stuff at half strength on the first offering - I never go stronger than that with anything new to the system if I can help it (meds aside, obviously).
