Seeing the thread on showjumpers manes has made me think about my own horses current mane.
Had said horse six months, mane was quite long when he came as he had been turned away over winter. Promptly pulled and since maintained at a normal length. Never cut or raked.
Around two months ago his mane started to stick up so decided to let it grow a little and the weight will pull it over. Thinking surely gravity will do its thing…
Well I now have a horse with a mane that could give a Trojan horse a run for its money.
I have tried plaiting it over and he insistently rubs them out in the stable or on fence posts. Not keen on a hood as a long term solution as it’s a PITA and prefer them rugless as much as possible in the warmer/unpredictable seasons.
Any ideas on how to sort this? Paired with his long ears it’s giving oversized donkey.
