Had horse's teeth done today, one of them needs removing as it's broken/loose but horse was rearing etc so it couldn't be removed at the time. The dentist recommended Dormosedan paste which can be prescribed by a vet.

I've rung round our own vet and several others since, none can get it for us apparently because they don't stock it or order it in. Others are saying they can't do a prescription because they don't know the horse.

Any ideas as to how I can get hold of some?

I would want the vet involved if removing a tooth, dentists are not supposed to carry out invasive procedures unless a vet is in attendance so you are unlikely to get it prescribed for the reason you require, better to be safe than sorry as if it does go wrong and part it left in the gum, or worse, then your horse could end up suffering needlessly like a friends horse did even though it was done under veterinary care a piece was left behind that caused him distress for some time.

You can ask your vet for a prescription & then get it online, but I think the ones refusing to prescribe because they haven't seen the horse are being reasonable because it's strong stuff.

My vet practice will prescribe dormosedan once they have been out to examine the horse and see it is fit to have it. Though I would use a vet to remove a tooth anyway.
