How to get gelding to drop his willy?

Apologies if there is already a thread on this somewhere. I’ve been advised by my vet to apply a cream to a lump on my gelding’s penis. The lump is right at the top of it, however he is reluctant to drop it unless under sedation. Any tips? Thank you.

Squirt some lube or similar inside and see if that works. Sometimes the coldness from it will make it drop down
