Hi Everyone!
I wondered if anyone could help, I own a very talented coloured (well or i think he is) Hes 14.1h and rising 8, I feel like his talent is wasted? He is more the finer sporty cob than the chunky feather kind.
His flat has come on over the years, excellent at times but his weakest phase. Occassionaly he feels like a school master and i have started to do flying changes with him. Very on point and will do as soon as i ask but by no means a 'dressagy' type and really doesn't enjoy it. The hardest part is hes currently in a 2 ring Neue Schule gag which he works beautifully in but when put in a snaffle he finds it alot harder, couldn't imagine doing a test in a snaffle on grass with other horses around, he'd be fully of it - something we'll have to work on.
His cross country is his best phase, we have done alot of training at local courses and hes jumped around 90cm courses and 100cm courses when at his fittest. Hes jumped BE100 fences when training with event instructors. I think i could take him over anything, sounds extreme, but you know that horse you own, the most honest horse i'll ever own in a lifetime I think. Won his first hunter trial at a difficult venue and always been placed.
Show jumping is still improving, due to me doing alot of XC with him he use to knock the odd pole when SJ but last year i've show jumped him in training between 90-100cm courses. He has shown lovely clear courses when training recently and my instructor is happy.
I'd love to get him out doing some BE90/BE100.. it doesn't seem simple looking how too. Never have done it myself before! What level dressage would he have to be at? Cross country and SJ doesn't worry me too much but his flat is his weakest phase :-( I would also like some recomendations for flat and jumping instructors in the South West area? I had a excellent one but £50 a hour was a little to much to have regular lessons. To be honest he doesn't go out and compete alot, currently he just does the occasional hunter trail, funrides and boxing to different places for a hack/good gallop!
TIA
PS, please tell me if i'm day dreaming!
