He goes this week. Circumstances mean I just can't keep him any more. He's going to a lovely new home but I just can't bear to see him go. Will it get easier??!

It gets 'easier' in a way. You get 'used' to it, eventually.

I'll admit losing my two ****ed me up quite a bit for a while, I was blessed to own 3 horses of my lifetime and had to make the decision to sell one to fund the other two. I sold her, then 3 days later, lost my big lad for good with no warning.

For me, I was lucky enough to have baby coblet, who is the only thing who got me through that time if I'm honest. I was beyond devastated and heartbroken.

I still miss big lad beyond words, but have accepted he has gone now and there is nothing I can do that is ever going to change that, so have to go on.

My first pony that I sold, I still keep up to date with her as she sold to a friend and perfect home where, as much as they can promise, she has a home for life and would offer her back to me at first point if needed. I'm still welcome to ride her and see her whenever and it's the 'best' ending I could have asked for out of a sad situation.

Baby coblet has a home for life with me regardless now, as I couldn't take a 3rd loss, not at all. I'd rather not eat and sleep with him, than sell him.

I feel for you. It's a horrible position x

I'm not really in the same position because my horse of a lifetime was stolen. I'd had him from a yearling and I had backed him 6 months before he was taken and I still think about him at least once a week and feel v.sad for a few minutes before I pull myself together, but I think that is mainly down to not knowing what happened to a young horse who was so trusting and wonderful :(. But if you know he is in a wonderful home then I'm sure it will get easier, and there will be other horses - I wouldn't change my current youngster for the world :D
