How to get rid of Mites

Does anyone know if Malaseb or Imaverol can be used to treat mites? One of my horses has them and I have a bottle of each of these liquids, so am wondering wether to try one of them on her, I know Imaverol is for ringworm, if it kills ringworm, will it kill mites??

Personally, I'd go for the injections that the vet can give you. They are so effective! Fair enough it is expensive but it lasts for ages

Frontline spray is good for this problem. Dectomax is the injection and it worms at the same time. Not exactly sure if there is a single injection for mites or if this is the one and only one.

I would say that it is unlikely that your horse will get any relief from using either of these products, Imaverol in particular. The Malaseb may soothe the affected area but it will not kill the mites, they don't live in the feather, they burrow into the skin.

If you can inject, get a bottle of Dectomax from an agri type store and give the horse 1ml per 50kg, that's 10ml for a 500k horse, into the muscle of the brisket/chest. Repeat in 10 and 20 days. It is not licenced for horses, but have used this method for years and never had any adverse reaction to it. It will worm them too.

If injecting is not for you, then buy, from the same agri/farm store, a litre of an ivermectin oral sheep drench, trade names like Noromectin or Oramec. Rub this liquid thoroughly into the feather, from coronary band to knee/hock, really saturate the leg and keep going back and rub it in. Wear gloves. Again, repeat this 10 and 20 days afterwards, then you have covered all stages of the mites' developement. This is pretty effective and cheap.

I find the most effective is clippers. Take the feather completely off a few times a year and problem solved.

Not very helpful if you have a traddy though
