Not for me - for a friend.

She has a 3 year old tb mare, doesnt go up and down with weight just isnt putting it on!
Shes ridden 3 times a week (i think!) rugged at night if its cold during summer and will be rugged in winter. She has been wormed.

So feeds/supplements to get weight on please! Oh and your thoughts on barley loops/hoops/rings (blonde moment :D)

Ta in advance!

if it's a tb then probably something like calm and condition by Allen & page as it doesn't provide overloads of energy! and we only feed barley rings to the old horses (35 y/o!) as barley is conditioning but we find it sends the arabs (I'm talking about a yard full of Arabs that I help/work at btw) anyway, barley makes that Arabs go completely loopy!

sorry, I've never been good at writing paragraphs and stuff so it probably doesn't make much sense! sorry x

I feed Calm & Condition. Also you could try Bailey's No4 Conditioning Cubes. I don't think that barley rings etc would be a good idea although what about Speedibeet? That might be helpful.

Alfa-oil, does wonders really helps put weight on and gives the coat with an amazing shine, on a lively horse i would use baileys top line conditiong cubes, smaller feed 3 times a day are more effective, than bigger feeds particulary for fussier eaters. I also used codlivein supplement, its a genaral purpose supplement with added oil, oil helps with weight to, its wuite fattening.
I would suggest barley rings on a 3 years old TB would proably blow his/her mind!
Also good turnout, with all this rain the lush Autumn grass is coming through nicely so that will help.
You dont want food with to much energy sometimes if you feed them to much there have to much nervous energy and this is the worst thing for weught loss!!
Hope this helps, it worked on my horse who blew his head on to much food and struggled to keep weight on. :)

Maisie has the Allen and Page Calm and Condition mixed with HiFi, garlic and carrots twice a day. She is also on hayledge 3 times a day as the grass is very poor at the moment!

She seems to be progressing, but shes not working at the moment as I have only had her for a week and half so settling her in. When she starts to be ridden (next week) we will introduce Build up mix, but only when we are schooling and riding out quite a bit .. I don't want to rush her to soon as she is still settling in and getting to know me.

:)

My mare drops weight in the winter most particularly Jan/Feb time and I feed her Bailey's No 4. The difference in such a short time is staggering. I do have some before and after pictures that Bailey's were going to use but it will take me ages to dig them out!

But I realise that it won't suit every horse but worth a try.

Wat about wheat feed/midlins?[/QUOT

I def agree...You can't get wieght on better with anything ( Believe me we have ried just about every feed / supplement known to man ) Midlins is AMAZING and sooooo cheap ( like £4 a huge bag...You can feed as much as you like too - with No worries about them going loopy...We found it doesn't just make their tummies fat, they get bulkier all over, it's great for rangy babies too!

* I am not in any way associated with Midlins...Just think it's great stuff :) .. )

She is 3 and still growing!Providing she isnt dropping weight and dosnt look poor then i wouldnt worry to much tbh, once she has stopped growing upwards she will start filling outwards!I certainly wouldnt be stuffing a 3 yr old full of barley rings etc!I would reccommend a basic quality feed fed at recommended levels with a balancer added!:D

Sorry, haven't read replies, so hope I'm not repeating, or at least not too much :)

Friend had this with her TB. Tried different feeds, but in the end found that Saracens Releave and their Equijewel did the trick, helped put on weight without fizzing him up. I use it for Dizz as well with the same results :)

Also, he has four haynets a day if he's in.
