How to get yellow tails white again?

Ive tried head and shoulders and that only got the really dark bits out so her tail is still yellow .. Can't afford to spend money on whitening shampoos unless i know they will work so which ones are best? Or even cheaper alternatives :)
 
My chestnut has a flaxen tail, the underneath is silver. I have to double wash it every week to keep it tangle free and sort of clean!

Herbal Essences is very good!

Make sure that you hold the tail in both hands in a fist and circle the tail against each other up and down the length (with the tail held in fists you rub your hands/ thumbs together in opposite directions), wash it out, spin dry it, spray it, brush it with a clean brush and wash it again, spin dry it, spray it and brush it.

I have had good results with vanish powder on a grey tail before, soak it, and wash it only with that vanish- water and then triple rinse it with clean water, spin dry it and leave it over night and rinse the tail again in the morning to make sure all the bleach is out. it makes it very clean and shiney!
 
I know it'll possibly cause an up roar, but I used to use dilated bleach with mine, and rubber gloves, but never let it touch the pony's skin, for obvious reasons. But it worked really well :)
 
Persil tablet in bucket of warm water worked well for me.

Do so at your own risk though as obviously it's not designed for washing tails with!
 
what i do is, wet the tail in a bucket of water and do a mini washing machine for it, just to get the worst out, then i wash it with fairy liquid (purple one) and then i spray the tail with vanish foam spray for clothes (be very careful not to get it on the dock or legs!) i stand there holding it for a minute or two while it works its magic, then brush through the tail and wash it off a couple of times :)

good old fashioned biological washing powder. One for whites (Daz or similar) rather than for coloureds but rinse it really well. Then run some cheap and cheerful human conditioner through (Tesco used to do a cheapy own brand apple one that was nice) and then rinse again. Used to bring up my old grey pony's tail beautifully :)

If doing the above be very careful not to get on skin, Daz is notorious for causing skin allergies, ask my daughter lol X
 
I will second everything tinsel trouble has said! I also use stain removing shampoo- shall try to remember the brand!! X
 
Hibiscrub (or any sort of shampoo, have used leftover stuff of mine before, as was all out of horsey stuff) to get rid of the dirt, add a good glug to warm water (v. important that it's warm, gets dirt out easier), rinse, repeat if very dirty, then finish with blue Gallop shampoo for the dazzling white finish.

This too.
And to keep it clean(ish) for that bit longer, comb some baby oil through the hair, the dirt generally doesn't stick.
