horse is refusing bute in her feed and vet has given me danilon and says they like it better but she wont touch it. can i make into a paste and syringe it or any other ideas please.
thx will try that .have some high fibre blocks i can soak..I really really struggled with this earlier this year when my girl had a virus... She is an evil genius about detecting meds on her food.
I syringed for a few days but she hated it and I felt mean as she was so poorly.
Then a lady in the yard recommended buying some high fibre cubes and soaking a handful in warm water to form a mash. I was sceptical as I'd tried all sorts in her usual feed, including honey, grated carrot, apple juice... But she loved it and practically mugged me for her bucket full of meds every evening!!
Worth a shot![]()
I mix mine with smooth apple sauce or apple flavoured baby food. Then suck it up using a large syringe, then feed it like a wormer. Works every time with mine
My vet supplies bute in a syringe bit like a wormer very useful and easy to use - no wastage either.
I syringe mine - sachet of bute or danilon in a syringe, add water, shake up, quickly into horse's mouth. Horse won't eat it in a feed, and I don't find there's any wasted.
like that idea ,will try tomorrow.I had to syringe it into my old horse. The vet suggested adding a tsp of ready brek to it and it was a revelation!!!! It puffed up slightly so it wasn't watery and it worked a treat. I just put the medication into a syringe, added water, added a tsp of ready brek and shake. It turned it thicker and made it harder to just spit it out.
like that idea ,will try tomorrow.
