Ok, so I've decided I want to get a dressage saddle. I understand the whole fact that it needs to fit both me and my horse but I can't decide how to go about it.

I tried a load at a shop the other day and REALLY liked the Bates Isabell Werth leather saddle but it's about twice what I wanted to spend (£1400). I tried loads of others and they felt no different to my current Wintec GP - I want to feel the difference when I sit in it!

I also like the look of the GFS EVA (£850). Both of these I like as they have the interchangeable gullet systems. I can't decide whether to buy one of these and get saddler to fit or other option is to call a saddler with my budget and see what they have that fits. Problem with that is it prob wont have interchangeable gullet which is what I love about my Wintec.

Anyone got experience of either the Bates or the GFS?

Why not a wintec dressage saddle? I think they make one pretty similar to the Bates one :) If your horse fits the wintec GP then that would seem like a good place to start.

I tried ALL the WIntec/Bates combinations and personally the only one I liked was the Bates Isabell Werth, it was really odd but the seat didn't feel as comfortable in the Wintec Isabell as the leather Isabell but they are meant to be the same saddle.

Why don't you call a saddler out so you can try a few options - you don't have to buy if they don't have anything within your price range.
That way you will have a few ideas of styles and ranges that fit both of you and depending on your timescale keep an eye out for a good deal or secondhand in one you like.
My saddler has a few with interchangeable gullet so even if you use a saddler that could be an option.

If you are using a wintec now, than I assume you have a TB type who is more narrow. But I have a Kent and Masters saddle, changeable gullet which i absolutely love. It's like the thorowgood ones but a bit more pricey (only just) and leather, though they also do a leather one called the L6 which is like the t6 but leather...Anyway, why not go with them and see what they have, as you can get a dressage, leather changeable gullet one which will not be £1400... Only difference is it might be too wide, even with a Narrow or Medium as they tend to be wider by default.

Actually I've got a pure ID! LOL! He's in a med-narrow gullet tho.
