how to harden horses skin

i have a really thin skinned horse just wondered what i could put on her skin under the saddle to help

just had the saddle checked and always use clean numnahs as she is so sesitive also use a prolight pad

i do remember reading about hot ragging ?????????????

I think surgical spirit can be used but I'm not sure, someone else on here may know.

I know someone who used surgical spirits on girth area of a thin skinned horse. Seemed to work. What about those gel pads? Have seen them used instead of a numnah, just a fairly thick gel layer in a sort of removable pillow case. Sure they are more complicated than that, but it did look super coumfy.

I guess hot ragging could bring out the grease if that's a problem.

If your saddle fits as well as you say you shouldn't need anything underneath technically.... the numnah etc is just to keep the saddle clean and soak up sweat.

Salt water if the skin is broken. If not, or when the skin has healed, surgical spirits on that area once or twice a day to toughen the skin up.
