Having to feed small bale haylage. Is there a trick to getting a complete wedge out of the pack. It's taking forever to get enough out. Thanks

Hi

It's a generic French brand. Will try opening packet other end. No strings just very tightly packed. May have to resort to a crowbar.

Can you not just cut the wrapper off completely? I'm not sure I'm quite understanding what the problem is, as I've never had a problem opening small bale haylage!

Have taken off wrapper. It's so tightly packed wedges will not separate. First wedge came out ok rest not at all. Small pieces are pulling off it's incredibly slow and frustrating

Used haylage about 20 years ago without this much struggle.

Doesn't sound like normal small bale haylage to me, but perhaps they do it differently in France. Or you might just have a rogue bale that has ended up highly compressed! Can you just give it to the recipient equine and just let them nibble bits off, or do you definitely need to separate it into sections?

Well that was my thought but while wrestling with it on the floor the pet pig grabbed it, gave it a violent shake and It split. Not sure if this is a rogue bale or if they will all be like this. If all else fails I shall shake bale violently. ;)

I'm afraid they're all like that. I struggle with every bale too. They come very tightly vacuum packed, and are a right faff!

Have you cut all of the baling twine? As stupid as a question that is

It took me about 15 minutes once to get a wedge out of a new one, I checked and triple checked all the string, still nothing would budge. Then I found the sly one right at the very very bottom, virtually nearly under the bale! And then it all sprung open and I felt very foolish!

Hi there was no twine surprisingly. It was amazingly tightly packed.

Thanks for all the help and advice

Feel so much better knowing it's not just me :)
