I have a 13.2hh 19 year old Welsh B x Arab mare (she suffered from laminitis earlier this year but is fully recovered).
She lacks condition and topline, I realise she needs to stay lean but want her to muscle up as I enjoy showing her in-hand and the teenager who sometimes rides her eventually wants to do some dressage with her.
She is usually ridden 2/3 times a week by the teenager and RI has given them some exercises to encourage the pony to stretch down and improve her top-line.
Other than hill work and encouraging her to work long and low whilst lunging what other non-ridden things can I do to improve her topline?
She has 5 hours turnout a day (she is muzzled), is fed adlib soaked hay (24 hours), a handful of Happy Hoof and has access to a vitamin and mineral lick.
Several people have suggested I can feed her a high in protein but low in starch diet what types of feed would fit into this catagory? (Alfalfa, fibrebeet, soya oil are what I've come up with so far)
