My horse is currently on allen and page calm and conditioner- worked wanders last winter but he is look scrawny already and the winters hardly started! I gave him more conditioner than usual last night but it came out the other end really rather quickly! :o Any other suggestions for getting the condition back on and keeping it on?
Hes also 17 and hunting weekly so is on a scoop of mix, scoop of chaff and 1/2 scoop of C&C.
Suggestions please?

how much hay/haylage is he getting?

is he turned out?

is he warm enough?

mine hunts twice a week plus a bit of hacking and some SJ one evening a fortnight. He is fed speedibeet, alfa oil and a balancer plus ad lib haylage. the more fibre you can get into them the warmer they stay and the better the condition stay on IMO

How big is he and how much hay or haylage does he get? Do you measure the calm and condition before or after soaking? What type of mix is he on?

OP I had a very underweight TB mare and I tried everything, including crap 'n' no condition. The only thing I found that did the job - and did it tremendously was Readymash Extra from Rowan and Barbary - it's fabulous stuff. The only reason I have stopped giving it to my mare is because she has put on so much condition now that she's actually getting a bit too fat!

How often does he have that feed? :)

I would ideally like to split it up to 3 feeds, but he is fed that amount twice a day.

Hes fed as much as he eats- which isn't a lot. He goes out as much as possible but there is very little grass left so hes better off in with a pile of hay. He was on haylage but this goes straight through him!!
Very cosy- i make sure of that! currently in thick mark todd combo rug and a fleece.

Hes 15.2hh and as above re. hay. hes a veryyyyy fussy eater and have to play it rather by ear. Although, had a look tonight at the weight suggestions and we feed less than what is suggested, however as of todays performance I don't think he can handle the stated amount!

If he is not eating much hay that will be half your problem! I presume teeth are up-to-date as poor dentition can often be the cause of older horses not consuming enough hay. If teeth have been done, then look at feeding other forage sources alongside his haynet - perhaps a tub of grass chaff or soaked grass nuts.

If you want to add condition without hyping him up then instead of the Calm and Condition you could consider the Top Spec Cool and Condition Cubes fed alongside a balancer. (These cubes are grain-free, unlike the Calm & Condition).

No point feeding mix as well as that will be lower calorie than the conditioning feed, and as it sounds like he is a fizzy sort will just be adding extra cereals that you don't need.
