Hi all,
probably sounds silly but as the title suggests really. the wound has been healing for two weeks and was originally about an inch and a bit long, it's now smaller and after initial bandaging I've left it open while in the stable. However as he lives out in a muddy field and needs to go back out (been borrowing a stable, no longer available) I was wondering if leaving the wound with it's scab on would be ok. He did knock it off the other day so I put dermagel on and left it to reseal, but, need to turnout tomorrow....any suggestions (has always been clean and free from infection to date!)
I'm just worried he'll knock it and open it up again and let in all that muck.

If the wound is closed (i.e no raw skin) i would thoroughly coat it in sudacreme before he goes out as this will keep the water and mud out, but bring him in regularly to clean & check it then re-sudacreme it :)

I'd avoid cleaning it every day if it's not deep and has a good scab on- the scab is there to protect the new tissue underneath.
Re-opening it all the time is inviting infection in.
I'd just look at it every day and clean as needed (trying to leave scab on) to reapply sudacreme :)
