How to label whips??

I've just bought a new whip as my last one walked off. (grrr!)
Any suggestions on good ways to label it as mine - but that won't ruin the look as I need to use it in comps?
Not that labels work very well - the one that walked off had blue tape round it with my name on it.
 
Does it have a metal top? We used to etch our phone number in the tops. You can make marks in plastic as well with a solder iron.
 
I was going to suggest putting tape round it with your name on!!

I second the idea of locking it away, or keeping it in your car. Or getting a cheap and nasty one for everyday, keeping the show one at home.

Unfortunately I'm on a yard full of kids - one of them was eyeing up my last bright rainbow striped whip and asked if she could use it when I wasn't....errrm no, coz I know you won't put it back.
 
Vet wrap! Obvious that the one with baby blue half way down it is mine but easy to take off if you want your whip normal colour again for comp use. (obviously only stops people mistaking yours for theirs rather than stopping real thieves who'll just take the vet wrap off - fortanetley where I am its usually more of a honest picking up the wrong one / just borrowed for 30 minutes and put back in wrong place)
 
Sew one of the name tags you get for school uniform round the handle. Thats what I did when I went to college, I did the same with my hat to.
 
either hide it in your stable or put it in your car! at mine we have a selection of naff whips which do to hack out, a couple of schooling whips which live in the manege with the lunge whips. a good whip should be kept as your own, so guard it with your life!!!! so hidden, or in the car, or in the lorry.
